Common Problems with Capri Camper and the Solutions

You may experience Capri camper problems due to many reasons. Here are some of the reasons and how to solve them.

1. Bed Issues

The owners don’t love the standard truck beds that come with the truck. These beds occupy a lot of space.

The Fix:

You can replace the truck beds with flat trays. This will enable you to make campers that have flatbeds, which are so much easier to build, are much stronger, and have no wasted space.

You need to keep in mind that the flatbed has to be on the center of gravity according to camper’s arrow.

2. The Clearance Issue

The higher bed rails of the Capri camper provided almost no clearance to the wings of the truck camper. The customers are worried about this issue. The biggest problem comes from a new radius at the bottom of the tailgate that hits the edges of the camper.

The Fix:

To solve both problems, you need to make a riser. You can build it using 2x4s a ladder with two 8-footers below each edge connected by four 4-footers at the front, back, and midships.

A 1×4 would have provided enough clearance, but you can go for an extra 2×4 laying around and they will provide enough clearance between the rails and wing to slip a garden hose into for easy storage.

The ladder structure is much lighter and more dimensionally stable than two 4×8 sheets of 3/4-inch plywood would be.

3. Feet Issues

When the Backpack sits in the bed of the Ford, it only sits on three of the four-channel steel cross braces.

The brace at the back of the camper misses the back edge of the truck bed by about some inches. This leaves two feet of the camper rear unsupported.

The Fix:

To fix this problem, you need to make a cross brace piece from wood that you need to tuck in between the bed and camper right at the back end of the bed before you drop the camper down. It stays put by the brace on the camper and supports the load.

You can reduce the forward bumper thickness so the camper slides farther forward.

4. Leakage Issue

Another very common problem is the leaking of walls. Many users have complained that air and water could come into their RV even when the window was closed. It can make it tough to control the temperature inside the camper.

Again, if water enters the RV, it damages the truck which can lead to more expenses.

Actually, it happens when the sealing rubber on the edges comes off the fixed place. Besides, with time the sealants crack, and as a result, you’ll find leakages in the window or on the roof.

The Fix:

You can simply take a heat gun and shape the rubber back into its place if you want to avoid replacement. However, this solution won’t be durable.

If you don’t want to run into such a situation anytime soon, you should take the leaked layer off and apply a new coat of sealant as soon as you find the leakage.

Leakage issues are serious as they can cause significant damage to the truck. So, they should be fixed quickly.
